REST AND REVIEW
Without judgment review your week. This week there were times I was able to stay with my Aspiration
to ______ many times. Now, breathe in goodness of this feeling and breathe out  the wish: May all of
those who aspire to change their lives feel this feeling of success. Now, look at your short-falls. This
week I there were times I was unable to keep with my wish to _____. Breathe in the painful emotion
that this faltering caused and breathe out the wish:  May all those who feel (
name the negative
emotion
) be spared from this feeling.  (Feel free to use your own words in this practice.)
ASPIRATION COMMENTARY:
There is no doubt that New Year’s resolutions are meant to be broken. I can’t count the
Januaries that I have taken off like an eagle on the wings of sheer will, only to loose the
feathers of my determination and crash into a mountain of giving up. I just seemed to
forget that it took me years to become habituated; therefore it is going to take me some
time to unlearn my bad habits. Also, I often forgot that the timing of the Universe is not
necessarily in sync with my own expectations.

In order to get closer to my goals, I realized that simply by changing the word from
“resolution” to “aspiration,” I was able to give myself a break and move forward again.
This is not to say that we don’t need resolve, or refraining, or that we can languish in
complacency in order to create change. But it takes into account that even a sparrow
knows that every nest is built twig by twig.

Even if a sparrow’s nest is destroyed by strong winds, they don’t throw away what they
had already built, but shore up their accomplishments and start again. For us humans it
is important to realize that there really are no new beginnings, but there is an endless
supply of “start agains.”

As we move forward towards our dreams, hold tightly on to the hand of Hope. Hope
will lift us and strengthen our wings. Hope focuses on possibilities, rather than chaining
us to do-or-die attitudes.

Hope is a cure for that self imposed measuring stick we rap over the knuckles of what
we call “failures.” When you falter in your goals, don’t tether yourself to feelings of
inadequacy, but rather call upon Hope and Aspire to keep moving forward, reminding
yourself of this quote, “When the world says, ‘Give up.’ Hope whispers, “Try it one
more time.’" ~Author Unknown
"Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone
can start from now and make a brand new ending.”

“Practice hope. As hopefulness becomes a habit, you can achieve a permanently happy spirit.”
~Norman Vincent Peale

~DAY 2~
"I will carve a tunnel of hope through the mountain of despair." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

~DAY 3~
“The inability to open up to hope is what blocks trust, and blocked trust is the reason for blighted
dreams.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

~DAY 4~
"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonics so powerful as expectation of
something better tomorrow." ~O. Swett Marden

~DAY 5~
“Hope is always available to us. When we feel defeated, we need only take a deep breath and say,
"Yes," and hope will reappear.” ~ Monroe Forester

~DAY 6~
"Hope is necessary in every condition.  The miseries of poverty, sickness, of captivity, would,
without this comfort, be insupportable."  ~Samuel Johnson

REST AND REVIEW
Without judgment review your week. This week there were times I was able to stay with my desire to
remain hopeful, many times. Now, breathe in goodness of this feeling and breathe out the wish: May
all of those who aspire to be hopeful feel its goodness. Now, look at your short-falls. This week I
there were times when I felt hopeless. Breathe in the painful emotion that this faltering caused and
breathe out the wish:  May all those who feel hopeless be spared from this feeling.
