MARCH II
WONDERMENT

“I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons.
It all exists, even if it's in your mind.”
~John Lennon~
WONDERMENT COMMENTARY: In the Buddhist Lojong Practice in post meditation life, which means
just about all of our day, we are directed to “be a child of illusion.”  Psychiatry tells us “reconnect with our
inner child.” Jesus says that “...the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these [children]." Needless to
say, the Universe is trying to tell us something.

If we watch children we understand that they don’t just believe in miracles, they live in the realm of the
miraculous. The world and their minds possess a sense of wonder, an “awe” type state of being. They not
only understand the importance of the present moment, they live in it. And as we become older,   life’s
responsibilities and sorrows bury our childlike nature. We lose touch with everyday miracles, squander our
curiosity on the lives of others, and lose our sense of wonder under the weight of our careers. We cannot
actually become children again, and one should never strive to regain a child’s naiveté.

Nevertheless, we can reconnect with the beauty which is seen through the eyes of our “inside child.” One
of the best ways I have learned to reignite the flame of beauty within the heart is to spend at least 10 to 15
minutes a day in nature. Deepak Chopra, M.D. (the author and Co-founder of the Chopra Center for
Wellbeing) says that spending time in nature helps to heal our body and mind.

To spend time in Nature doesn’t mean just being outside and  power walking  right on by the tree, but
rather to soak in every aspect of the tree, the rowdy bark coursing over its trunk, the flowing skyward
limbs, the veins of life inside every leaf. If you are prevented from going outside, watch the snow feather
its way downward to caress the earth, feel the ruffling fur of you cat under your palm of your hand, bask in
the warmth of flames dancing inside your fireplace. Just do what it takes to be aware that beauty
surrounds you every day.

In closing I would like to say, we are told “Don’t be so heavenly minded that you are of no earthly good.” I’
d like to correct that statement, “By being heavenly minded you become the most earthly good.” Those
who recognize that the Kingdom of Heaven surrounds them and is within them, those who live in the realm
of miraculous possibilities, and those who believe in the world is full of beauty, bring healing to themselves
and others. So next time take heed to that voice calling you... Come on, let’s go outside and play,” for it
carries with it, the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven right here on earth.

REST AND REVIEW
Now, without judgment review your week. This week there were times when I was able to find the wondrous, and
regain my curiosity about life. Now breathe in how it felt. Then breathe out the wish for everyone to share in feeling
see the world through the eyes of a child.  Now, look at your short-falls. This week I there were times I was just
unable to feel connected to the child within me. Breathe in your painful emotion and breathe out the wish:  May all
those who feel disconnected from the wonders of life be spared from this feeling.  Feel free to use your own words in
this practice.

Now, without judgment review your week. This week I there were times I was able to feel the beauty of Nature. Now

As I walk,
The universe is walking with me.  In beauty it walks before me
In beauty it walks behind me. In beauty it walks below me
In beauty it walks above me. Beauty is on every side
As I walk, I walk with Beauty.
